Membership

Discover why our Members appreciate the details

We love independence, and part of that is being able to make your own choices. Here’s how it works.

Membership fee

This one-time fee, also called an entrance fee, is required at move-in and is determined by the size and location of the apartment home. It’s neither a real estate transaction nor is it transferable. Once your application is accepted, an application fee (which is part of the Membership fee) is due and holds the apartment home for up to 60 days. The remainder of the fee is due when you take possession of your apartment home. The Membership Fee may be partially refundable and refundability is determined by the type and terms of your Residency Agreement.

Maintenance fee

This fee is based on the size of and number of persons in the apartment home. It includes:

  • Utilities (electricity, local phone, heat/AC, water, garbage, basic cable television)

  • Bi-monthly housekeeping

  • Security on-site 24/7

  • Bike lockers

  • Access to a variety of wellness and aquatic classes and community events

  • A complimentary three-day stay each year in our licensed healthcare center for independent Members who want or need additional medical support on a short-term basis

  • Tech support is available for an additional fee

  • Parking is available for an additional fee

Parking

Around here, you don’t even need a car. Whether it’s by foot, bike, streetcar or the MAX train, you can easily get around Portland. You’re also so close to downtown, you’ll have the city at your feet. But if you’d like to bring your car, parking spaces are available for an additional fee.

Tax Advantages

As a Member of a non-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community, you are eligible for certain tax advantages. A portion of your Membership fee and monthly maintenance fees may be deductible as a medical expense for these purposes. Consult your financial advisor.

Fitch Rating

Terwilliger Plaza continues to be one of a handful of retirement communities across the nation who has a “BB+” Rating from Fitch Ratings, a global credit rating agency.

Internationally Accredited

Less than ten percent of Continuing Care Retirement Communities are accredited, which is proof of our dedication to quality care. Terwilliger Plaza has been recognized with a CARF-CCAC accreditation since 1997. To earn this seal, we meet or exceed over 1,200 measurements of excellence, including vital issues such as governance, finance, accessibility and health and safety.

Our Policies

Terwilliger Plaza is Portland's only representative self-governed Continuing Care Retirement Community, which means our Members have a say in how we operate and what we offer. We’re also tobacco-free, don’t discriminate, and are pledged to the letter and spirit of the federal and state policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunities. We encourage and support affirmative advertising and marketing in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing due to race, color, religion, gender, disability, national origin, or sexual orientation.
